Hey kaddyshack,
Welcome to the forum.
It sounds too long. Is it possible he said 38.5mm?

Do a search on you tube for a do-it yourself treatment.
Apparently it is easy and safe. I know someone that tried it successfully and avoided the proposed doctors procedure. I watched it as I was curious and indeed it seemed to be a no brainer. Wonder if it would work for most?
Hope you get this taken care of soon and feel better!
Blessings

Are you sure your doc said 38.5 cm????? To my knowledge, the diaphragmatic hiatus itself is approximately 2 cm in length. At 38.5 cm it would mean a lot of your stomach is sliding through your diaphragm.
