As long as you receive the relevant tratement for diverticular disease in the colon it should not affect your lifespan.
Probably one of the major threats to life is sudden torrential diverticular bleeding which requires immediate hospitalisation and blood transfusion(s). You should interrogate your G.I. specialist doctor about the ;likelyhood and probability of this emergency in your own case and, if there is a real threat, then the next question is whether - or not - a total colectomy might be advisable. Of course this is major surgery and carries its own series of risks. I would imagine that your doctor will try to treat the diverticular disease and only contemplate surgery if there is evidence of bleeding.
But do seek medical advice - and bring a written list of questions to your next meeting so that you feel you have all the answers/options/risks etc.
