diverticulitis desperate help

My Husband Has This And he Is Suffering. He Got It Once In September And Took Flagl And Cipro And He Was Fine In A Few Days. Thus Time He Did The Same Thing But After 5 Days The Pain Was Still Bad. so Then He Went To The Er And they Told Him Augmentin Was Better. So He Took It For 10 Days And Then He Started Feeling Better But Not Quite Good. Then Two Days After He Stopped It, He Woke Up At 1 Am With Pain All Over His Tummy, Top, Left, Right Bottom, And Pain In All his Joints AS Well. When He Went To The Doctor, they Just Gave Him More augmentin. O Asked The Doc If It Could Have Lead To Something More Serious But He Said No, He Didn't Present Symptoms Of Anything Else....But What about The Pain...No Response. So I Was Wondering What Should He Do Now If The Antibiotics Don't Work? He's Been Eating A Normal Diet Cuz The PC Didn't Tell Him To Avoid Food For A While. What Now? What Can He Do To Heal Properly?

He Isn't Being Treated By A Gastro Doc. I Think he Should. He Got Diagnosed By A CT Scan Done At The Er. The Er Told Him To Follow Up With His Primary Care Doc Who Prescribed Him Flagl And Cipro. After 5 Days Of Taking It, He Still Felt Bad. So Got A Prescript For Augmentin. Then The 10 Days Was Up. Day 12 HeWokeWith Tummy Pain All Over...So Not Sure WhatThatWas. Doc Gave Him More Augmentin....Now He's A Little Better ButStillInPain. Should We Just Call A Gastro Doc?

Hi there!

Well, without knowing the relevant clinical details or a detailed clinical evaluation it would be difficult to comment specifically on the situation. The abdominal pain could be related to diverticulitis or could also occur due to other causes such as GI infections, motility issues, causes related to the GU tract etc. If diverticulitis was the diagnosis, while the choice of antibiotics may vary; aside antibiotics bowel rest such as keeping to IV fluids for a few days to be followed by a soft diet is typically advised. I would suggest discussing the situation and the suggested management plan in detail with your treating gastroenterologist.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!
