ear aches

by momma d, Nov 14, 2001 12:00AM
I have a son who is now 20 but through his growing years he always had ear aches.  I became allergic to amoxicellin.  Well as he went through the teen years the ear aches were few.  Now they are starting all over again.  He has a continual stuffy nose. HE takes Sudafed two tablets once a day.  His ears ache and I was wondering what to suggest to him.  He has a minor job with no health insurance to cover anything.  Years ago a doctor once told me that if it continues that he would need sugery.  Is there anything else we can try before it comes to sugery?

He could have tubes put in his ears.  This is an in and out thing that is relatively simple.  They may just give him a mild sedative and some gas and it take no time to put the tubes in and they will relieve his discomfort.

Give your son a gift -- the book called SINUS SURVIVAL by Dr. Robert Ivker, D.O. It's possible that if he has a sinus infection, it may keep spreading to his ears, by way of the eustachian tubes.

Ask your son to try the NASAL IRRIGATIONS as described in the SINUS SURVIVAL book, and ask him to try much of the OTHER advice from this excellent book too!!!

For the earaches, try wetting a wash cloth or towel with hot water (not burning hot), and have him hold the moist heated towel against the outside of each ear. Repeat this, as the towel cools off. Do this for several minutes, several times a day.

The heat should speed up blood circulation in the area of his ears, bringing white blood cells there. These white blood cells can eat up the infecting germs.

Try to get your son to GREATLY IMPROVE HIS DIET!! and to drink more good quality water (if medically OK for him). Talk to knowledgable people at health food stores, to get advice. Urge him to eat NO JUNK FOOD, NO SODA POP, but DO EAT lots of ORGANIC VEGGIES, FRUITS, NUTS, SEEDS, NON-GLUTENOUS GRAINS (like brown rice), ETC., and AVOID MILK PRODUCTS (causes congestion).

When he can afford it, have him see a good NUTRITIONIST, who can advise him about which foods are highly nutritious, and about vitamins, minerals, digestive enzymes, etc.

If his ears don't stop hurting very soon, you may need to help him financially to see a good doctor, or, he can go to an Emergency Room, as a "charity case" (no shame in that--many have to do this).

I hope he feels better soon!

Sincerely,
Concerned lady

I forgot to add that he should try some ACIDOPHILUS/BIFIDUS beneficial bacteria, that you can buy for him from a health food store. These "pro-biotics" were probably killed off (in his large intestine) by all the antibiotics he used to take.

Taking these good bacteria can help prevent or treat YEAST INFECTIONS that often result from antibiotic use.

Yogurt also has the good bacteria, but...milk products often cause MORE MUCOUS, so get some milk-free ACIDOPHILUS &/OR BIFIDUS for him.

Good luck!

Sincerely,
Concerned lady
