elevated ast and alt

by tami12, Apr 30, 2009 01:56PM
I am a 27 yr old female and i weigh about 120 lbs, i just went and had a full blood panel taken. Everything came back perfect except for the Liver enzymes were off. My AST was at 136 when it should be in a range of 0-37 and my ALT was at 78 when it should be at a range of 0-65. What does this usually mean? My Dr. said he wants me to re-due my blood work in a month and if they are still elevated like that then i would need to see a specialist. I eat healthy and exercise but my Dr. didn't really have an explanation for me. He said symptoms usually include fatigue and exhaustion but i rarely ever feel that way...can someone give me some suggestions?

Hi there:

I'm so glad you aren't experiencing any pain, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea or other symptoms that generally accompany elevated liver functions.  I'm not a doctor and know next to nothing about all things medical.  Here is some information that might help you understand elevated liver function tests:

You can always check your future labs at http://www.labtestsonline.org/understanding/analytes/cbc/glance.html.

All the best,

Sam
