elevated liver enzymes

by la48, May 14, 2008 06:20PM
My sister has been having terrible pains just below her breastbone, after having several tests done at the hospital last week and ruling out a hernia, acid reflux etc. they are now concentrating on blood drawn yesterday again due to elevated liver enzymes, testing ast, alt...they also did a biopsy of her stomach...one tells her one thing and one tells her another, they said she had hpylori bacteria in her stomach and are treating her for that...she is so tired of all the testing and no sound answers just yet.....I felt like she may have an obstruction at the entrance to her stomach causing the pain, which is mostly shortly after she eats, but the pain sometimes wakes her up in the middle of the night, just under her ribs....she is a nervous type person and could be having spasms of some kind.....we are hoping that the biopsy will give her some idea of what is going on with the liver, but she probably has multiple digestive problems....thanks LA

I have the same problem with my liver enzymes and I don't abuse alcohol. I was admitted into the hospital because my liver enzymes were so high. The doctors still haven't figured out what the problem is.

Please let me know how it goes with your sister and IF she gets diagnosed with anything. Let me tell you, it isn't fun at all to have this. I know how she feels.

Thanks, I know it hasn't been a picnic for her either and she is highly frustrated about the whole issue...hope all works out okay in the end for you as well....I will be sure to let you know if and when they decide what the real problem is....
