endoscopy results, still no answer for symptoms...

by jfem, Jan 18, 2006 12:00AM
The results of my endo were chronic, non-specific gastritis, no HP seen.

THe GI MD said that had I not had symptoms, he would not even have mentioned what he saw.

My symptoms have been since 12/3 nausea, bloating ( upper abdominal) no appetite, full after eating little, loose yellow stool.
Went on Pepcid, then Zantac, then Prilosec.Stopped all meds on 12/28

Nausea went away, bloating, and feeling full stayed.

By 1/1 most of the symptoms had gone away, and for about a week, I felt great.I could eat normally, had an appetite, and didn't feel full after eating at all.

Then on 1/11-13 bloating  and just feeling sick to my stomach again. Not anywhere near as bad as the beginning, and the nausea has never come back.
My stomach just doesn't feel well.

It sometimes wakes me up at night-this feeling of sick stomach -almost like it's empty, but not burning, and never heartburn. just feels uncomfotable.
I eat some saltimes (  3 or 4), then it goes away and I can sleep.

My stools have gone back to brown, still once a day and soft, but not yellow anymore.

Stools, bloods and exam are normal.

Gyn exam-no masses on ovaries, sent a CA 125 and have an US for Monday

I also have an US to rule out gallbladder on THursday.

I am worried about Ovarian Cancer at this point...because everything that I read seems to indicate my symptoms, espcially the abdomial (abdominal) bloating.

I know I will know the answers to that by Friday or Monday, and I know you can't tell me what it is, but can you give me your thoughts?

Does it present as Ovarian CA, can it still be something else?
Just want to hear your thoughts on this.

Thanks,
J

You are correct that the abdominal bloating is often an initial sign of ovarian cancer.  A transvaginal ultrasound would be an appropriate study to look for this condition.

The upper endoscopy is pretty comprehensive in evaluating the upper GI tract.

You can consider more specialized testing, such as a 24-hr pH study with esophageal motility (looking for GERD or esophageal motility disorders), or a gastric emptying scan looking for gastroparesis.

I also would agree with the abdominal ultrasound to evaluate the gallbladder and liver.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

I guess my other question is if it is mild gastritis, is this how it presents? and if so what can I do to alleviate the symptoms in terms of diet etc...

Thanks again

So are you saying that you agree with the dx of mild gastritis?

That's what the endo revealed.
Could that dx be causing the symptoms that I described?

did you test for hector pylori bacterial infection?you can do this in the doc office thru a breath test.

by jfem, Jan 21, 2006 12:00AM
They tested me for it through the biopsy ( endo).

doc will not revisit the thread he has responded, you will have to start another thread .
A lot of people suffer from abdominal bloating, you have to watch what you eat and when you eat and keep your bowel moving.
Did they find any hiatal hernia ??
some times it is caused by too little acid ,not too much acid.

A few of the symptoms that you described are what I deal with also. I was just diagnosed with gastroparesis. I had a gastric emptying study done which proved my stomach was not working properly.

I'm not sure if that is what you have but I would suggest having this simple test done, with your physician's approval. You may also have a stomach ulcer. I've had stomach ulcers and sometimes the pain is relieved for a short time by saltine crackers, milk etc...

I suggest seeing your physician to discuss options. I hope you get help/relief soon.

God Bless,
CJ
