For many years I have had problems with esophageal air. As I get older it gets worse. The air continuously "rolls" up my esophagus making hideous noises, then stopping at my throat area. I have some difficulty breathing with much pressure. The instinct is to swallow it down, only to have it raise up again. The only solution is to gag and the large amounts of air escape with instant relief. What causes such a thing? Weak muscle at top of stomach? I have heard esophageal air can be associated with auto-immune disorders such as Sjorgens. I have those types of diseases common in family but nothing diagnosed with me other than a bout of transverse myelitis. I certainly do not have other symptoms of Sjorgens. Any ideas? I also have GERD and take Prilosec for many years.
