excess belching

by patti113, Dec 28, 2008 12:57PM
I have had bouts of excess belching on and off for about 10 years.  The most recent bout does not seem to be ending though there are days that are better than others.  Some of the time the belching is associated with chest tightness that is eventually temporarily relieved by a belch.  When this all began upper and lower GI series with negative resuls and no evidence of GERD.  In the past few years it seems to be worsened by lying down on my side. It is OK if I am on my back.  I was told this is likely nocturnal GERD (that would not be picked up on an upper GI).  I have also read about a "loose" or dysfunctional lower esophageal sphinchter. This makes sense in terms of the postural symptoms.  Any other advice?

This discussion is related to constant belching...gerd causing aerophagia?.
