excessive saliva

For about two weeks I have been experiencing excessive saliva, it feels rather 'foamy' and all I want to do is spit, drink, or eat something for relief. I have NO other symptoms of any kind. I am a recovered alcoholic, two years.

Hi Bill. I started having a problem in early 2008 with saliva and mucus
building up in my throat and making me feel like I might choke. The
mucus also was burning my throat. It took many visits to my doctor,
and the ER, to figure out that I probably have Gastroparesis. I have a
problem where my food does not move fast enough through the lower
intestine. It just sits there for a while until a little bit comes up in my
throat. I had to figure out on my own how to manage it. Just try to
eat small meals about six times a day, and stay away from sugar as
much as you can. Too much sugar seems to be my trigger. If you
feel something coming up, don't fight it. Not to be gross, but just go
hock it out. Otherwise, the longer the the piece of mucus containing
pure stomach acid, by the way, sits waiting to come out-the more
saliva and mucus will build up. I am only telling you my experience,
not trying to diagnose. Just wanted to give you an idea. Good luck
to you.

hi bill, i'm having the same issue with saliva in my mouth, filling up from the bottom. was wondering if the problem solved itself or any advice you received. I've been on amoxicillin antibiotics for a week and its still filling my mouth. Now the doctor has gave me some capsuls to reduce gastric acid, not sure if they will work though.

kindest regards

richard

I too have "foamy" excessive saliva.  I never drank in my life, so don't worry about it being alcohol.  Test your saliva with pH strips first thing in the AM.  You may be dehydrated and need to drink more pure water.  Do you have sinus problems, that may be dripping down your throat?
