I have been detected with fatty liver with the level of 143 GGT, AST 35.2 and ALT 59.1, Bilirubine 9.9 and an undetected and untreated hepatitis A infection occured long ago.
I itch all over but specially around my ankes with dark skin coleration. I started drinking red wine jalf to one small glass for two years for better sleep which I stopped 3 years ago and confined myself to drink perhaps once in three months if there was a party not taking more than two small glasses which I had stopped also a year ago. I am more a vegetarian and have taken care for nine years to avoid fat. I avoid taking any medication even for a headache and am an active person though has a fatigue. I have developed cataract and am adviced operation. Evening my eyes cloud over more.
Is this eye problem related to liver and could be cured without surgery.
How do I get rid of this itching all over my body?
Is it okay to take capsule of silibum marianum (milk thistle)for my condition which I started 15 days ago ? Will this cause itching to increase?
My age is 54 and I am fivefeet and weigh 67 kg. ( I have put on 13 kg, in the last7 years. I have no diabetes or hyper tension, they are not in our family

There is no definitive studies that I am aware of demonstrating the efficacy of milk thistle.
If there is an association with itching, you may want to consider primary miliary cirrhosis. Obtaining an alkaline phosphatase level can be considered, however a liver biopsy would be needed if this diagnosis is suspected.
This option should be discussed with your personal physician, or in conjunction with a hepatologist.
Followup with your personal physician is essential.

With all due respect to the doctor who responded to your question, there are many definitive studies proving the effectivness of milk thistle. Get the book, Miracle Cures by Jean Carper. You can read about those studies in there. Some were done in Europe, some in Universities here in the US. She will also give you information on how to take this herb. I agree, you should be taking it if you have liver problems. Good Luck!

You may also want to purchase a supplement called, Alpha Lipoic Acid. Go to Dr. Don Colbert's web site. He has a great book called, What Would Jesus Eat. Those 2 supplements and a healthy, natural diet like this would help you greatly. I am a registerd dietitain. Read a lot of the information on Dr. Colbert's web site. It can help you a great deal. Buy the way, I believe he sells this supplement under the name of R-Lipoic Acid.
