I had my gallbladder removed in November of 2000, and have had severe pain ever since. I,ve been reading this forume for along time and read you also had problems after surgery. I'm curious if your sphicterotomy worked to relieve the pain? I have had every test been to 4 different Drs. The last being at the Mayo clinic. Everyone of them agree I have pain, but will not test any further as to the cause. The Dr who did my ERCP found pain was in the sphincter of the bile duct. He didn't cut the duct because he it looked normal. Then after I woke I told him the pain I felt during the ERCP is the same pain I feel daily. He said I starting complaining when he put the canula into the sphincter. Our hospital doesn't have the equipment to preform a ERCP with monometry which would tell for sure if that is the problem. The DR at Mayo didn't think the risk was worth taking. Even though my liver and pancreas levels are elevated. My dr gave me the option of finding someone to preform the manometry or having him go back in and cutting that sphincter. Knowing cutting it without knowing is only a 30% chance it will solve my problem. I know you had this done and I'm wondering if it helpped you any?

Good Morning:  I don't know if the sphincterotomy helped to relieve the pain or the fact that I'm on digestive enzymes is what is helping.  After my procedure I didn't feel any pain in my right side, probably because the pain from pancreatitis was masking it.  I now have the pain in my right side but it is not near as bad as it was.  My pain from pancreatitis is not as bad either.  I'm guessing that the digestive enzymes are the key to all of this.  Personally I would not let them go back in with the ERCP to do the sphincterotomy, especially if you dodged the bullet with pancreatitis last time.  That is not something you would want to have to experience.  It is the most gut wrenching  stomach ache you will ever have.  Knowing what I know now, I wish they would have tried the digestive enzymes BEFORE doing the ERCP with sphincterotomy.  I missed a month of work because of this procedure.  If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me:  ***@****   Take care and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
