frequent bowel movements

Lately I have been experiencing very frequent bowel movments during the course of the day. 3 to 4 each morning, then another 2 - 3 the rest of the day.  What can be causing this.  My doctor suggested taking Metamucil fiber, which I do, so he suggested taking more.  I am up to 4 doses a day, but no change?  Any suggestions?

You did not specify if your bowel  movements were loose.  If so, having gone through the problems I'm going through at present with my daughter, get a referral to a gastrointestinal doctor.  There are many important tests that could be done, stool studies, colonoscopy, capsule endoscopy, upper gi series, etc.  Please call your doctor.  I would feel good to know I could have helped someone.

I too had the same type of issue now for almost a year.  The fiber seems to help, I take the metamucil capsules, about 6 a day, two w/ each meal.  Its helped a lot, although some days it kinda relapses back to looser stools a couple times a day, most always right after I get up in the mornings.  Just remember to take them w/ plenty of water, if you dont, it could worsen the symptoms.
