function tests

by Liver test, Aug 11, 2005 12:00AM
My Liver function tests were very high due to excessive
alchol over the years. They came back to normal when I
stopped drinking. Does that mean my liver is ok. No cirrosis
or damage. I do not feel good at all. My Dr. said my Liver
test are fine and I should not worry. I believe I may
have done a lot of damage to my liver, but the funtion tests
have been normal for 6 months now. Does it mean I have no
problem if these tests are normal. If I had a problem
would these test remained high.

Normal liver function tests are encouraging sign that the liver is not damaged.  However, there are cases of cirrhosis (i.e. end-stage liver disease) that can present with normal LFTs.

For further evaluation, you can consider a liver ultrasound to evaluate for cirrhosis as well as determine if there was any anatomical abnormalitiy of the liver.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

by IsmySPGTkinda high?, Aug 12, 2005 12:00AM
Hello,
I just got my blood tests back..  Everything is ok except that something called an ALT indicator (SGPT) came back kinda high....
58.....the optimum range is between 1--45.
So what's the matter with me?   The SGOT is 35....just inside a range of 1--36...

Can someone out explain and help me out with this??   Thanks.

what does the liver ultra sound show. I had a ultra sound
of my upper right side. I know the liver was the main focus.
It came back normal. Does that mean no cirrosis or damage.

If your biochemical tests like ALT, GGT levels are well within normal range & have a normal u/s than you need not worry.
Regarding the fact of having a general feeling of being unwell, in my personal opinion could be due to the detrimental effects of previous alcohol consumption on your body in general & your neurological system.
It won’t be of harm rather beneficial if you could see a doc.
Taking regular Vit B supplements again could be helpful in your situation.

I have a 12 year old child in treatment for Acute Lympcytic Leukemia and she has liver levels that fluctuate in the AST and ALT...she had pancreatitis in May and was hospitalized for 3 weeks...we are monitoring her counts weekly..my question is I had read of a ALL patient who's doctor has prescibed JETESPAR I think it was called a vitamin for the liver...do you know what this is??? Also, I was told there is a toxicity test for 6MP with a simple blood test....do you know where this would be sent and how accurate this test is?? Thank you for any input on these questions.
