funoplication surgery

by sue-evans, Nov 19, 1998 12:00AM

I have had reflux for over 13 years now. I am a 49 year old female. I have been told I will have to have surgery and I would like to hear some of the pros and cons of this surgery. What type of success rate is there with this procedure? I have been on Prilosec 100mg. for a month now with no results.               thanks, sue

Dear Sue,
Fundoplication done by an experienced surgeon has excellent results regarding improvement in reflux.  Some physicians obtain a gastric emptying study presurgery to exclude the possibility of post perative gastroparesis causing bloating, nausea and gas pains.
