g-tube feeding schedule

by tmv, Oct 20, 2007 09:35PM
My neighbor's dh had a g-tube inserted 1 week ago and was home on continuous feedings per infusion pump at first. Yesterday, the dr told her to begin feeding him by gravity feeding. He suggested 1 can every 4 hours, but said she could change the schedule around if she wanted. Just see how he is doing at first. He's been fine, not having cramps or emesis. She's wanting to give 2 cans at regular meal times and one feeding prior to bedtime. Just wondering what type of schedule worked out for other patients out there? I feel that he should be just fine with that eventually and tried to let her know not to rush it as he has been on the 70cc/hr for the week. Anyhow, I'd love to hear your stories. Thank you in advance. (oh, the cans are 300 cal/8ounces) He was getting 2100 cal/day on the continuous feed, but is underweight.
