Why do so many people having gallbladder problems with the bile duct continue to to have lots of pain after surgery? My mother is 74 years should she have surgery or not? If the idea is to remove the pain but the pain doesn't go away then what is the use?
The answer is: they don't. You're reading stories of the minority of patients who did have problems. The vast majority of gallbladder patients never miss it and never have post-op problems. In a nutshell, if your gallbladder is full of stones, you are more likely to NOT have post-op problems. If you have gallbadder symptoms with no stones, then it's more uncertain just how helpful the surgery will get rid of all those symptoms. If the problem is in the bile duct alone, it's even more tricky. These are all questions that should be reviewed thoroughly with your mom's doctor before surgery.
