gas and diarrhea after partial colectomy

gas and diarrhea after partial colectomy

I am 2-3 months post-op after a paritial colectomy for diverticulitis (about 4 inches of colon removed).  I feel great but have been suffering with severe flatulance and diarrhea.  I am taking an Imodium (immodium) equivalent now and then and that seems to solve the problem.  However, I am wondering if this is normal and if it will improve over time.

Increased toliet visits and diarrhoea are common after a total/partial colectomy.  The frequency should reduce over time.  I suggest that you increase the fibre content of your diet - pulverised fresh fruit to which bran has been added - same for pulverised fresh vegetables + bran.  Also home made muesli (soak oats + bran in milk and add grated apple + fruit + nuts so that it looks like wet cement).  Also wholemeal organic bread, no junk food, colas etc etc.
