gastrisis and hip bursitis

by phylica, Jul 29, 2009 04:12PM
I took three days of anti inflammatories for hip burstis and got sick and went to gi which showed moderate gasritis. I started 8 weeks of nexium 40mg. In the mean time I am a pilot and sit long hours which i think started the hip bursitis , since i can not take anti inflammatories now, my doctor suggested I take a I beleive a cortisone steriod shot in the bursa to help with the inflammation because the pain is getting unbearable.I think thats the kind of shot. I have a two fold question that did not get answered last posting, also I have never have a stomach problem ever until I took a few days of antoi inflammatories.Heres my questions.........
                    1. How long would one treat gastristis cause by the antiinflammatories,?
                    .
2.. How long for the stomach lining to heal?
                     3. Would the steriod shot into the bursa enter the bloodstream and also cause the prostaglandins.
that produce lining in the stomach I think is the right term to make the gastristis worse?
4.Would the shot be able to cause gastristis? My orthpeditric doctor said to ask a gi doctor?

I am afraid to make my stomach any worse from the shots and need one but not sure how it would affect the stomach
with my situation, or if later on it could also cause gastristis.. Thanks for ansering each question..

To answer your questions:
1) It would depend on the severity of gastritis, and can range from 4 to 8 weeks.

2) Again, depending on the severity, but I would consider 4 to 8 weeks as a reasonable time period.

3) It would be unlikely that a steroid shot to the bursa would reach the bloodstream, and cause systemic effects, like those on the stomach.

4) Again, unlikely that the steroid shot directly to the bursa would lead to gastriris.

I would discuss these questions with your personal physician.
