I have a 16 year old daughterthat for over 3 years now we have seen doctor after doctor to try to find out what is going on with her. She gets pain in her stomach that radiates to her back and sides. She gets pain after eats almost everythong. If she eats smaller portions she is usually good.If she eats more than a small portion of food shegets severe cramps and sometimes will vomit We had an ultrasounds, hida scans, gd and others. They have found nothing wrong with her so far. She is on prilosec and zantac but has not helped that much. I am thinking that she might have gastro paresis. Any thoughts? I would like to go to her GI doctor with a direction to look into this time.
can happen, and a person can feel nauseated.
A) You say she is on medicine that are acid reducing medicines- has she also altered her diet, eating habits to no food two to three hours before bedtime & laying with her torso at a significant slant, not flat when in bed?
B) Did they test her gastrin level while not on the medication to rule out Zollinger-Ellison syndrome?
C) With the ultrasound- was it the abdominal one which includes a look at the pancreas, which goes behind the stomach and all the duct work, including pancreatic?
D) Does she tend to be chronically constipated? Does she have a lot of diarrhea? Does she alternate between the two?
E) Has anyone suggested she might have irritable bowel syndrome(they should take a direct look to rule out other things)?
F)Does she show any signs of feeling stressed/anxious (as this can cause significant GI disruption)?
Thank you the reply. She has had an EGD and they found mild gastritis. They then might have thought it was her gall bladder and did an ultrasound. Her gall bladder, splean, liver and kidneys all look normal. That is all they have done. She has since switched to eating smaller meals every 2 to 3 hours and it seemed to help a little bit. She is not an anxiety stricken girl......more relaxed. We have another appointment with her GI doctor and I will bring up some of your thoughts. Maybe he will try other avenue.
Does she take NSAIDs a lot (ie ibuprofen, naproxen, etc)? These can aggravate the lining of the stomach if she does and if she can avoid those, it would be good while she has the gastritis at least. When it was hurting me to eat everything before and they felt I had gastritis, a couple of times they put me on a clear liquid diet for I think it was 48-72 hours to try to give the system a chance to calm down- you might ask the doctor if they think this might help anything.
I noticed you didn't mention the pancreas- was that not mentioned on the abdominal ultrasound report? If it has been quite a long time since her last EGD, you might ask about her getting another one, with a Bravo this time (if they didn't use one last time).
