gastrointestinal discomfort after broad spectrum antibiotic intake

Hi,
Please, I need some help with this. I took Levaquin for 28 days to treat an urinary tract infection. After that, my gut has been on fire. I believe, it is an intestinal disbiosis because prolonged use of antibiotics. I tested positive for candida but I believe it also can be a C. Difficile overgrowing. Please, what do you suggest?

                                                                                                      Thanks,
                                                                                                                   George

I totally agree with ggreg.  Go to the grocery store and buy some Activia brand yogurt.  You will probably have to take this for 2 weeks before seeing any results.  If you do see results after 2 weeks, don't stop taking it.  Take it for a few months.  Every single day.  If you tested positive for C. Albicans, you have a real problem.  The anti-biotics knocked out too much good bacteria in your gut making the bad bacteria in your gut get out of hand.  Sugar feeds candida, making it worse.  And Activia has sugar in it.  Both lactose and sucrose.  That's why it doesn't always work for people with a bad yeast problem.  So, if you get no help after 2 weeks, purchase a probiotic called Primal Defense Ultra by Garden of Life.  Get the capsules.  It's the best probiotic on the market.  Also, get both of the little, tiny books by Dr. Don Colbert, "The Bible Cure for Yeast and Candida" and "The Bible Cure - Recipes for Overcoming Candida."  Follow the diet to the letter while taking the probiotic.  If after a couple months things don't settle down (which they probably will) go see a Holistic Doctor.  A traditional doctor knows nothing about getting rid of Candida.  By the way, I'm a nutritionist.  Good Luck!

Dear George,
When you take antibiotics, it kills both "good" and "bad" bacteria.  To restore the gastrointestinal flora to normal, all you gotta do is consume for two weeks either Acidophilus milk or Activia yogurt, both at the grocery store.  They have "probiotics" in them, which helps digestion return to normal, especially the gas part.

Every time me or the dogs have to take antibiotics, as soon as I finish the last round of all the medicines, I start us drinking on Acidopihilus milk, and I don't have to wait around for the digestion to straighten out.  So, give it a shot, and I think you'll get relief within a few days, but keep going with it for two weeks.
