gastroparesis

by sunny12, Aug 30, 2007 07:26AM
Could cholecystectomy (lap) cause gastroparesis.  Had GB removed-fine for 3 weeks, then developped gastroparesis.  Cause?  Not diabetic.  Have had EGD and GAstric emptying, MRCP.

just wondering if u ever resolved your symptoms. I was diagnosed with gastroparesis several months ago and just had the gallbladder removed last week.  Should have gone home that afternoon and was in hospital for one week with tube down nose into stomach empyting intestines.  Was bloated where I looked 6 months pregnant.  Doctor said the stress from the surgery could have brought back the gastroparesis.  I had been on domperidone and reglan for a couple of months and it had gotten better.  Day after surgery was very serious.  Actually came home and was rushed back to ER the next morning with bloating and blockage.  Been home for 4 days and can't even look at food.  Just growing again.  I am also not diabetic.  I had gastric emptying but not MRCP, what is that?

Nope GP continues.  Been on tpn for over 9 mos.  How about you?   I think these surgeons are full of it.   They obviously have cut the vagus nerve during this surgery and don't want to admit it.  However, there is karma and we will all meet our makers one day.  If that's not the case-then I'm coming back as a surgeon and guess who's going to be my first lap choly patient.

Seriously though I'd rather have just about anything out there than gp.  Getting my GB out was the worst mistake of my life.  I did not have GP prior to surgery.

I am right there with you. My vegas nerves are dead. I have gone through six surgeries and still have trouble eating and constant nausea. I have an appointment with my surgeron next week to discuss taking my stomach completely out. He is reluctant, but I am insisting, my quality of like is awful and I have a 10 year old son.

Do any of these doctors really care??

What is your story with GP-after GB removal?   What did your doctors say was the cause?

I also had my GB removed - it was "dysfunctional" (just like the rest of mt life).  A few weeks later was sick as a dog, went to a specialist who did Gastric Emptying Study - markedly abnormal results.  He says I may also have Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction - all can be related to anxiety and depression.  Anyone else feel EXTREMELY fatigued with achy joints and headache along with the rest of it?  I also get night sweats (DONE with menopause).
