I have the same issue except that I also have sharp shooting chest pains on the left side of my chest. Very cold and carbonated beverages are the worst and sometimes hurt to swallow. The gurguling can be quite embarrassing. I saw a GI doctor. Endoscopy showed a stricture which was dilated but this didn't seem to help. So I saw a motility specialist and had many tests which showed mixed results. Turns out my motility is a little slower that normal. Barium swallow showed some narrowing but possibly from outside of the esophagus. CT scan showed everything normal. 24hr pH study showed some reflux.
I would suggest you start with a GI doctor. They will likely do a barium esophagram and possibly an endoscopy. After dealing with all of this for almost a year, I think I can offer a few considerations. You might consider reflux as a cause. Try changing to a low acid diet. I am not sure what you do at work but you mentioned, it is worse there. I am at home with 3 small kids and all the constant bending over really aggravates my symptoms. It may be physical or psychological. Is your work really stressful? Maybe the stress is causing the tightening. Food allergies or sensitivities can cause esinophillic esophagitis. I had two endoscopies where they took several biopsies to check for this. All were negative. Could there be something in the air at your work even mold spores that could cause some mild reaction?
I still have not found the cause of my issues but continue to make progress.
I wish you luck!
Hi there!
This could be due to motility issues or neuro-muscular causes or occasionally infections/ inflammations could cause similar symptoms. If would suggest discussing with your doctor if acid suppressors would be a feasible option in your case, to check if these help improve symptoms.
Hope this is helpful.
Take care!
