hard stool

i have very had stool and it won't come out.  What should I do

Welcome to the gastroenterology community!  I would not recommend taking any medications as listed by nevadared.  You should first try dietary changes.  I would recommend increasing your fiber intake (you don't have gastroparesis so this is okay to do), increasing your intake of fruits and vegetables, increasing your consumption of water, and getting more exercise.

I have tried MANY laxatives. I recently  found that "SORBITOL" works for me. I have gastroparisis, So high fiber worsens my condition.  Sorbitol is available online and runs about $7 a bottle, which last 2 weeks.  I had no luck trying to buy at local drugstores. Works about the same as "lactulose". That is a prescription medicine. Look for sorbitol  70. Good luck. PS  It does cauise gas but that beats concrete like stools
