My mother was a very young active 79 year old. She could keep up with her great grand kids. She recently got bladder cancer and had a bag put inside and her bladder removed. It drains through her belly button. She was regaining strength after this and the chemo beforehand. She then had bowel problems and the cancer had spread through her colon. She had a colostomy
which has never worked and they decided she needed a G-tube to drain her stomach because it wouldn't drain and she threw up. She has been on TPN and they recently tested her small intestine to see if it worked because her stomach has become paralysed and she has gasperisis. The intestines do work so they placed a j-tube within the G-tube so she could be fed and drain her stomach as well. They wanted to get her off the TPN so she can go into select care. She is still throwing up but the feeding seems successful. If her stomach would begin to work, she could have some quality of life as the tubes could be removed. The opening for the G-tube has become smaller so it doesn't drain her stomach as well. They consisdered a GJ tube but it would be a while before she could get that and she needs to get to Colorado Springs as she has been in University hospital in Denver for 2 months. Are there any new studies she could get into to see if she can have her stomach begin to work. Sorry for the long question but we are about at wits end.
