helpless mom who needs help!!

My son is 12 and has had constant abdominal pain now 24/7 for over 3 months,he is not been able to go to school because he is in so much pain.He is a very outgoing kids who enjoys sports and hanging out with friends and for the past 3 months he has done nothing beside moan, groan and cry.His pain worsens after he eats or has a bowl movement,he has lost 10 pounds and is extremely pale looking. He has had a lot of tests done(blood work, x rays, upper GI and followup, colonoscopy and an endoscopy)all came back normal.I dont know what else to do or where to turn,it seems that the doctors are not overly concerned because first of all nothing is showing up in the blood work. If there is anyone out there who can give me some advice or any suggestion it would be greatly appreciated.I am at my whits end and not to mention my heart is breaking from watching my son in pain and can't do anything to help him:(

your welcome, yeah that seems like if the GI workup was negative..might be worth a try just doing flagyl just to stop and try anyway..those stool studies are not always accurate.

gallbladder can cause all sorts of problems..ultrasound/HIDA scan would help and then in the meantime try probiotics (healthy bacteria, yogurt/pill form) that *****.  Hope your son and me get better asap!

Another thing is he has at times a lot of gas and he almost cries when he has to let it out and it doesn't help after wards...I had at one time mentioned to a doctor if it could be bacteria in his intestines and he said it would have showed in the stool culture..?But maybe i should look into issues of the gallbladder...I'm trying to be a doctor because Im not getting anywhere with the few we have.

Thanks again:)

ah you responded just when I did..so he already did stool tests :S

well C-difficile but usually that shows up on a stool study (but not always) or depending on the pain maybe some gallbladder issue but.. yeah that is difficult :S

mm lower right is usually appendix-ish but you already did colonoscopy.  Maybe C-difficile infection?  Yeah stool tests would probably be a way to go if you haven't done it already.  Usually I think they prescribe flagyl (an awful drug).  Keep trying :S

Hi, Sorry I failed to mention that he had stool cultures done as well...but never heard anything so I assumed it wasn't positive..He also was tested for celiac which I thought made sense but that came back normal...but now I am beginning to think it couldn't be a food allergy because he is hardly eating at all.I so appreciate your help and if you think of anything else of the top of your head lease let me know...I am very greatfull:)

Thanks so much

Hi,Yes he has been tested for celiac and it came back neg. Most days his stool is soft and then out of nowhere he will have diarrhea. His pain started all around his belly button but now it is located in his lower right part of his abdomen.I think I do have copies of the blood work,I will have to check because I know at one time I brought the copies to a different doc and don't remember if i got them back.I will defiantly do that though, like I said I am in desperate need of any help from anyone...Thanks so much for your response

Is there any celiac disease in the family and has he been checked for the problem?

Has he had any changes in bowel habits? Where is the pain located? What specific blood tests were run? Do you have written copies of all of the test results and have you read through them. I know docs are supposed to do the interpretation, but sometimes small things are overlooked. If you don't have a copy, get a copy and read them.

I'm not a doctor but...

Stool/culture studies to check for parasite..bugs..

Ultrasound/HIDA scann of gallbladder, awfully young to be having those problems though.. one good cheap test would be to test for possible celiac disease (blood test I think) or you could go to a food allergist and check that out. That way you could rule out all sorts of allergies at the same time.

Just those off the top of my head..i'm sorry hope you figure it out :S
