hiccupping and gagging while eating

by Anne919, Jul 31, 2009 10:08AM
My father is 79 and in good health.  A few months ago he started having occationally episodes when eating but they are becoming more frequent.  After several bites he has strong hiccups that practically throw him back in his seat.  Then he starts to cough and gag.  He usually ends up vomiting.  I know he's very embarrased by it but won't tell the doctor.  He sees a gastrologist for colitis which he has under contol through medication.  I was wondering what the cause could be.  Thank you for any info.
