history of melanoma stage 3 five years now diagnosed with liver lesions

It has been five years since my husband had melanoma of the eye.  His eye wes removed and nothing was found outside of the eye.  Five years before that he had 2 melanomas on his back. One was a stage 3 and he took immunotherapy at Duke university.  All liver scan(blood) and lung exray showed him to be clear of all cancers.  Just recently we ended up in the emergency room for kidney stones.  A Ct scan was done and found 2 spots on his liver.  I would like to know if anyone else has had liver tests and it did not show liver cancer.  This has been a yearly test ever since the first melanoma and all has always been clear.  Could this be something else?
