intense lower left abdominal pain....please help.

Hi, I am a 17 year old girl and for the past 3 or 4 months I have been experiencing off and on a very sharp, intense pain in the lower left part of my abdomen and now for the past couple of days the pain has been constant. It's always a dull, uncomfortable pain but randomly it can be very sharp and painful but usually, that is only for a brief moment. The pain is always in the same spot in my lower left abdomen but sometimes I will also have a very sharp pain under my ribs (on the left side as well). I think my appetite has decreased and I have lost maybe 6 lbs. I went to the doctor and she said ruled out kidney stones/kidney problems, utis, eptopic pregnancy, and other reproductive organ issues. She thinks it is my bowels/intestines. My bowels are generally not normal, usually it is a little loose and doesn't look normal but there is no blood, no constipation, and only rarely some diaherria. Sometimes I have to go to the bathroom 2-3 times a day and sometimes I could go 2 days without going at all. It doesn't seem to have a pattern. I thought at first it was IBS but there is no relief after I use the bathroom, no excess gas, and not really any diaherria. Also, the doctor found trace amounts of blood and white cells in my urine. I'm not sure if that would be related or not but nonetheless I am concerned and the pain is getting significantly worse. Please help, any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

u sound exactly like me only my pain is my right side. Had it since easter exactly like your was described incl. the bathroom scenario. I am having an abdominal ct this very morning to rule out an obstruction of some kind. did they check u for  diverticulitis? My mom has had that w/a few terrible relapses of it and also have had other friends with it. Not sure if the left side is indicative of that as my moms pain was right side.  But ask the dr. anyway.  Have u tried lots of water, cranberry juice as I see someone in forum mentioned UTI's.  I too have had some light blood on toilet paper for 2 yrs before this pain came and never went to the dr. had a total hysterectomy decades ago.  Try citri-cal maybe? Milk of Magnesia also were suggested by my doctor.  What kind of foods do u eat as a rule?  Healthy diet or not so much?? Try not to panic as u r doing what u need to do by seeing a dr.   At the age of 18 I had a bout of gatsroenteritis which was terribly painful but I didnt go for 3 mos. w/it as soon as it hit I had to leave work and go to dr. and he diagnosed it quickly.

My dad is convinced that it is diverticulitis but isnt that usually in people like 60 and older? And there doesnt seem to be any mucus or blood in my bowels, well at least as far as I can tell, but I will def. mention it to my doctor. Pretty much all I drink is water but recently I've been very dehydrated and actually had to go to the hospital because of it a couple weeks ago maybe that is what is making it worse?? I dont no. My diet isn't horrible but it probably could be better. I eat out maybe once a week, I love vegetables and grains like pasta, rice and wheat bread and eat a lot of that; I could probably use more fruits, I don't eat a whole lot of snacks/sweets but I def. have my weak moments; I love fried foods so I could probably try to cut back on those but recently my appetite hasn't been great so I'm not eating a whole lot of anything actually. I'll ask my doctor about cirti-cal and milk of magnesia and see what she says. Thanks soo much for your advice, it's helped a lot. I was thinking since your pain is on the right could it be your appendix? Or maybe your gallbladder, but I think that's closer to your ribs. I bet your doctor has probably ruled that out by now but just a thought. I hope everything goes well with ur ct scan and you get better soon.
