or leak that resulted in him bleeding out his rear & vomiting blood at the same time.He was prescribed warafin & low dose asprin among other things for his blood pressure
,been on it for probably 7 or 8 years ..They put him on a drip which obviously could not keep up with the bleeding which he was expelling..after seveal hours (3-4) and 2 units of plasmas
and that they had no option but to do a emergency exploratory surgery to try to find and stop the bleeding and that he probably wouldn't survive the trauma of such a surgery at his age..well after 2hrs the nurse said they got it stopped and he was still alive.A gastro-duodenotomy was performed and a bleeder was over sown in a diverticulum just proximal to the ampula. He was flown to portland ohsu where he wasfuther treated for 3 weeks..His LFTs were elevated and wasfelt secondary to shocked liver and did improve with time..He went through 14 units of blood at the first facility before and during surgery..when at the second facility he received more blood after a few days.. any opionons???
Five years ago I suffered torrential diverticular bleeding and required about 16 pints of blood in the following 2-3 days.
My complaint was not the same as your father's - eventually I underwent a total colectomy which I described on Medhelp in reponse to another patient on:-
Anyway, may I suggest that you re-post your question on the "expert/ask a doctor" part of the G.I. forum because I think you may receive a professionally composed response rather than the "sharing experiences" tenor of this forum.
