is it stress?

Have had diarrhea off and on for six months. Haven't lost any weight so I pretty sure something is going on with my colon. Doctor put me on Nexium (actually took the generic OTC, Prilosec). Am allergic to Protonix and started getting hives while taking Prilosec so I stopped taking it. Helped a little bit, but still had some diarrhea. Dr. thinks I have IBS but wanted me to try Nexium product before going further. My question is, is there an acid pump inhibitor that acts differently than Nexium or Protonix given my allergic reactions that I could try? Also, my Dr. said that a visit to the GI doc and a colonoscopy would be next if the acid pump inhibitor didn't help. Any thoughts on what I should try? Thanks.
