jejunoileal bypass reversal

My mother had a jejunoileal bypass for morbid obesity 25 years ago. They no longer perform these operations as the side effects have been extensive. She did lose about 100 lbs but has had malabsorption problems, diarrhea, and recurring kidney stones as a result. More recently she has been having severe pain from spillover of bile that is not being absorbed, rather passing right through her. Her doctor is recommending that she have the surgery reversed. Has anyone had this procedure reversed? Any suggestions would be appreciated as she is really anxious about whether a reversal would be successful or would just be an interesting paper for the Doctor to publish where unfortunately the patient died from complications. Thanks

Your mother should have the procedure performed by a bariatric surgeon. Some good places to do some research on procedures and bariatric surgeons are www.asbs.org, www.obesityhelp.com and www.duodenalswitch.com. On those sites you may find people who have had reversals. I had a Bilio-Pancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch (another type of bariatric surgery) performed laparoscopically by Dr. Hazem Elariny in Arlington, VA... so of course, I highly recommend him.
