jejuostomy feeding tube

by Rudy, Jun 24, 2001 12:00AM
I am 47 years old and have had a jejuosomy feeding tube because of gastreparesis for about 7 years. For the past year I have been having problems with it leaking around the tube all of the time. It leaks more when I use it. I have had the feeding tube changed many times and for the past 2 years they have had the largest one available in. Usually when it would begin to leak enlarging the tube would fix the problem. I am thinking maybe the site needs to be changed. Is there anyone that has had a feeding tube for this period of time and has had this problem. The leakage is constant and my skin is raw from it and nothing is correcting the problem. I am totally dependant on this as my nuturiental intake. I only drink small amounts by mouth so I am desperate to find an answer to my problem. Noone in my area has or has had a permanent feeding tube so the drs. do not know what to do in my situation. Help me if you have and information at all in this matter. Thank you so much.

I have a J-tube.  I have had 3 j-tube surgeries in the past.  I also have severe gastroparesis and take all meds and nutrition through my tube. My most recent tube was placed on May 11 and I spent three weeks in the hospital because of many complications before the surgery as well as after.  They had to do an open procedure to place the tube, and a lap procedure to clean up a lot of damage from my last two tubes and surgeries.  I have always had a lot of problems with them.  I have also been on NJ tubes and TPN and had problems with those as well. I have always had problems with my j-tube leaking, coming out, causing pain, etc.  Please check out my website at www.monkeygirl.atfreeweb.com and join my GP support group at www.yahoogroups.com/group/gastroparesis.
