I have bowel problems in that I can't push the stools out. They are there but the only way I can get them to pass it to press on the sides of the rectum area (and vagina area). I notice this started happening right after a hysterectomy
(complete) about 10 yrs. ago. I spoke to the dr. that did the surgery and he said he'd never heard of such a thing and just "poo pooed" it off. It has continuely gotten worse. I have tried a laxitive pill and sometime it doesn't work and the last time I took one I actually got a stomach ache, very nauseated and almost passed out. I have noticed my stools are dark and always in small balls. Always. I don't see any blood in them. I have "fishers" (sp) and do bleed from the rectum area at times. I would like your thoughts on this. I have an appt. to see my gastrenterologist soon. Also, I am in my late 50's.
Thank you for your insight.

About all I can add is you should get enough exercise and drink enough water daily, not too much salt, that will help soften and move the waste. I've had mine intermittently get stuck like that, and I used "Baby Lax," comes in a little box with some tubes of ointment in there, you squirt two there, and the stuff comes out. But if this has been going on for 10 years, it does indeed sound like somehow the operation may have had something to do with it. If you haven't been to a gynecologist lately, you could ask her what is going on as relates to that. Also, be sure you're getting enough to eat, sometimes that will affect how well waste passes, like include spagetti and salad, a sandwich with 100 percent whole wheat bread, and cheerios.
