Left sided pain, as you describe it, is either from diverticulitis (you'll see if antibiotics will help) or from bloating from:
- lactose intolerance
- fructose malabsorption
- clostridium difficile overgrowth in the colon
Youi can try with lactose-free diet or low fructose diet, each one for two days, and if lactose intolerance or fructose malabsorption were the cause, it should help in this time.
If you won't get better in a day or two, go back to the doctor and ask for Clostridium difficile stool test.
