liver biopsy results

Well I had my liver biopsy on Tuesday.  It wasn't as bad as I thought, infact the anxiety about getting the damn thing was way worse that the biopsy itself.  The only thing that hurt at all was the shot to numb my side, which only felt like a pinch.  Anyways the results for it were better than I expected.. the only abnormality was "nonspecific change" which I don't really understand, does that just mean that there is a change in the architecture of the liver cells?  Anyways I have been dealing with chronic elevations of ALT/AST for over a year, ALT: 60 to 100 and AST: normal range to 60.  The biopsy showed no damage to my liver, no fatty infiltration, nothing.  So I guess if there is no damage then it is possible for this to be my normal range.  Just thought I would share my experience with you all.

Thanks!

I should also say that I have had every type of diagnostic test for the liver and all have come back normal, except the ALT/AST.  I just can't imagine that a hepatologist would be able to do anything that hasn't already been done.  I would go to one if I had symptoms or thought that my GI doctor wasn't any good, but he says that I don't have anything to worry about and my family doc says that he is the one of the best GI docs in the Kansas City area.  So I am not to worry about it, but I will ask my family doc what he thinks about follow up with a liver specialist.

Wouldn't they have seen inflammation of the cells under a microscope?  The GI doc said there was no follow up except with my primary doctor, so I suppose I'll ask him about it.

That is great news that you don't have any liver damage or fatty infiltration. However you do have some inflammation happening as is evidenced by your raised enzymes.

You still have some undiagnosed reason for those enzymes to be that high. Whatever it is so far has not damaged your liver.
I'd see a heptologist. There are other issues aside from fatty liver and existing damage to consider.
