liver cysts?

by sk2006a, Nov 19, 2006 12:00AM
Hi Doctor -
Last July I had a CT scan w/contract (ab & pelvic) due to pelvic pain.  I recently received a copy and was shocked to see the following statement:
"The liver demonstrates two small low-attenuation foci at the dome, each measuring less than 1 cm in size.  These may represent small cysts.  The spleen in unremarkable"
This report has been given to my urologist, gynecologist, internist and the ordering doc, my gastroenterolgist.  Not one doctor has mentioned this finding!

I've had my CA125 checked three times.  It's gone from 32.5 in July to 22.4 in October.  I'm 52 and 10 years postmenopausal.  No one seems to think the numbers are a problem except the gastro doc.  All ultrasounds have been clean.

Now my internist is sending me for a chest x-ray just to check since the CA125 is a little high.  She had been saying since July that it WASN'T high.  I am SO CONFUSED.

Can you tell me if this finding is something I should be concerned about...and just what does it mean?
Thank you!

Many liver cysts can be benign.  However, to be sure, further tests can be considered.

An ultrasound or MRI can be discussed with your personal physician.  Each of these can help determine whether the cysts are dangerous or not.

A referral to a gastroenterologist can be considered as well.

The CA-125 test is a marker for ovarian cancer.  If suspected, a transvaginal ultrasound can be considered.

These questions can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

I need help from anyone who can.  I have had upper right abdominal pain and nausea.  Ultrasound revealed a 6.6cm mass on my liver.  I also had elevated liver enzymes.  I am also 4 years post thyroid cancer.  Any ideas?  I go for a CT scan Monday.
