liver question

by Liver test, Feb 04, 2006 12:00AM
If a biopsy that reads, minimal fibrosis 0-1 on scale of 0-4
slight fatty liver, slight portal imflammation is this a serious
liver problem.  2nd is now I think i have cirrhosis based
on taken klonapin and trazadone for 2 months after the
biopsy. My LFT have come back  normal. 2 doctors that
i go to say my LFT would not be normal if I had cirrhosis
or a serios liver problem. I tell them i have read on
your site that lft can be normal with cirrhosis. Again
they think im crazy. What does normal lft actually mean.
I have drank heavy for years by the way. I have symptoms of
cirrhosois. Is it possible my liver is just injuried and this
is why i have the symptoms. I have quit drinking and now drink
soda alot, will soda harm my liver. I had the biopsy 6 months
ago, will a new biopsy show any think different or is it to
soon to pick up. I have read that is take 2 years for fibrosis
to settle and show up in your liver.

Your liver biopsy shows minimal fibrosis.  If there was marked cirrhosis present, it would have been described during the liver biopsy.

Last-stage cirrhosis can have normal LFTs.  However, if this was the case, the liver biopsy would have found this.

Normal LFTs means that the liver function tests (i.e. ALT, AST) fall within the normal range - suggesting that liver function is not impaired.

I am not aware of soda affecting liver function.

Repeating the biopsy can help in cementing the diagnosis.  This can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
