lower back pain

by Kathy__0__0, Oct 22, 1998 12:00AM

I am 54 years old 6'-1" and weigh about 220. I have been plagued with diahrea,
gas and constipation for about 1 1/2 years  and about a year ago had a upper
GI  done with no adverse results.i began walking in the morning for about 20
minutes and that seemed to help.   I changed jobs and the walking stopped and
the. symptoms began anew. i went to a gastro doctor (sorry but i can't spell
that) and he did an examiniton of the inside of my colon ( i can't spell that
either ) a week later i was given a bariun enema . nothing was found. He did
comment on the my apparent nervous colon.  It has been about a week since the
barium enema. Last nite I experienced something new.    i got a terrible pain
in my lower right back which is one i associate with constipation.  I went to
bed but could not go to sleep due to pain.   at 3:00 am i found it very
difficult to get out of bed . I got up and gave myself an enema.    This did
not help.I have been in a lot of pain this morning, but it seems to be
subsiding a little.  My question is why is it so difficult to find anything
after. those 3 tests.   I don't think it is normal to have this kind of pain.

dear Bob,
Your doctors are going through a sequence of diagnoses that could be causing your symptoms.  They have excluded several possibilities.  Additional testing may be needed.  Yu should talk with your doctor regarding the tests he thinks would behelpful.
