lt. upper abdominal pain

by curtis, Oct 22, 2001 12:00AM
i was told about 10 yrs., ago after a colonoscopy that i have ulcerative colitis. i remeber the symptoms, but one problem i didn't have then, is a pain that is sharp around my lt. upper abdomen in between my breast and back.the pain comes and goes.i'm suffering from another attack of the colitis.my stools are yellow mucussy with a foul smell.my mother is in her final stages of pancreatic cancer, and my sister has crohns.i'm being treated for the colitis.i told my doc. about the pain, but he isn't concerned.i don't know where to go with this.should i have test done? my stools were pale brown and even yellow at times, even befor the colitis. should i be concern about my pancreas.              thanks curtis

the color of your stool and your family history i  can not see why this doctor would not take this serious.if i were in your shoes ,and i have been. i would seek the advice of a gastro /digestive specialest and if your present doctor is a specialest i would get a second opion . there is a upper scope ,colonoscopy ,barium inema ,(i guess i spelled that correctly)at any rate don't take chances with your health get a second opion and ask that they run some test so they can diagnose the problem.they told me for a long time that there was nothing wrong but ibs, fibroid myalgia, then upon a second and even a third opion they ran test and found severe exstensive diverticulitis disease and i was schedual for colon surgery which i had done on sept 20th other than the pain from healing i can say i fill a hundered percent better spite all the other medical problem i still have .i figure one down and i will beat the rest in time .i hope you seek a second opion and i wish you well .god bless
