my friend has a large gallstone ?

My friend has a large gallstone and the doctor has not referred her to get it removed and is just going to leave it in. Is this safe? She experiences pain and discomfort. Can she request to get it removed or for a second opinion? x

Here in the US, symptomatic gallstones would usually result in recommendation of gallbladder removal.  That's assuming the person is healthy enough for surgery.  Tell your friend not to eat any cheesecake.  That gave me a 30-hour gallbladder attack about one week before my gallbladder was removed.  If she is in the US, I would say she should get a second opinion from a general surgeon.
