Hi dr i posted a question a few days ago about getting diarreha for over 20 years 4 times a week.I thought the test i was going to do was a barium swallow now I find out its not they want me to do a Small Bowel Series.Would you please let me know what a Small Bowel Series x ray is and how long is takes and what does it look at.i cant find any good info on it.thanks so much.

A small bowel series is an upper GI series that also allows imaging of the small bowel.  Normally, any small bowel lesions or suspicion of Crohn's disease would prompt ordering of this test.

It normally would not take much longer than an upper GI series, and depending on the facility should not take longer than an hour or two (sometimes shorter).

These questions can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

Hi there - unfortunately the doctor does not respond to follow up questions. As far as the band aid is concerned, I would think you can leave it on. When I have had small bowel series x-rays for Crohn's my top half is covered by a gown, so a band aid should not be a problem.
Good luck and hope you get your problem sorted out.
Liz.
