never ending pain and a bit of blood

by c.anne, Sep 12, 2005 12:00AM
Hello.  I am a 46 year old woman who had a LAVH Hist on 11/04.  It was to remedy left sided abdominal pain. I had fibroids and an enlarged uterus.  The surgery relieved the intensity of the pain but not the entire pain.  I continue to have a feeling of a vice grip on my left abdomen.  I had a colonoscopy in March(6 months ago) which was normal.  The doctor suggested that I have IBS.  Another doctor, a urogynecologist suggested I have Interstitial Cystitis.  My bladder spasms happened post surgery and return for a few days about once a month.  When that is not happening my colon area is in spasm.  I feel constipated and bloated.  I've had disabling gas pains at times.
This morning after a difficult night of pain and constipation, I was able to have a Bowel Movement, it was scratchy and after wards there was a small bit of bright blood in the tissue.  My left abdomen still aches.
I have been taking fiber supplements and drinking lots of water and the gastro Dr. prescribed hyoscyamine sulf .125mg. I have gotten a very little bit of relief from that.
I have been in pelvic pain for almost 2 years.  I have axiety issues related to the pain.  Headaches, back strain, sciatica.
Otherwise I am healthy, I work out, walk, and try to be vivacious.  I weigh 125 at 5'5", so am otherwise healthy.  There has been no weight change over these 2 years, and I have had blood taken as well as a general fecal exam at the OBGYN only last month. All resuts were good, and the pathologhy during my surgery was good.
I am afraid of what this blood may mean.  I am exhausted from this chronic pain, and have tried chiropractic and holistic care, including electrodermic energy (ORDAMOND).  Prior to the surgery (now 10 months ago), I had an abdominal CT scan after drinking contrast. That was normal also.
My biggest complaint is the constant pain, and am concerned about this bit of blood.
Thank you for you comments and ideas.

You have had a pretty comprehensive evaluation for your symptoms.  A negative colonoscopy will rule out many of the major causes for blood in the stool as well as colon cancer, inflammatory bowel disease or other obstruction.  The CT scan also is helpful in evaluating for any inflammation or organ dysfunction.  An anoscopy can be done by your personal physician to evaluate for hemorrhoids.

You can consider a transvaginal ultrasound to evaluate the adnexal area - although this likely would have already been thought of by your GYN.

If interstitial cystitis is a concern, you can consider a potassium sensitivity test by your urologist for a more definitive diagnosis.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

Hi C. Anne~

I just read your post and although I am uncertain as to what to
say or suggest, I just wanted to let you know that I am so very
sorry that you have been experiencing pain for 2 years.  That is so way too long.  Do you get any help for this as in pain killers?  I hate taking any Meds but I have to or I absolutely climb the walls.  There have been times that the pain that I am currently going through has made me want to scream at the top of my lungs and throw something against the wall or something.....
It's just hideous and mine has now been going on for over a year now so I don't know how you've managed to get threw 2 years of this ****.  I wanted to ask you what Electrodermic Energy is...
I've never heard of this treatment.

I'm sure you will hear back from some of the regular ladies that are on this site.  All of them seem so decent, understanding, and informative.  I plan to keep up with your post to see what their recommondations to you are.

I would appreciate it, though, that if one of these ladies does read this could they please answer a question for me.  I am still rather new here and what I do not understand are the postings that end with 'This Thread Has Been Closed as newer ones have been posted'...........I don't get this as where are the newer ones, except the ones I am reading and what about some of the questions that had questions that never got answered because the thread was closed.  Does anyone know why they do this?  Makes no sense to me at all.  They could add page numbers to follow, etc......I hope someone can answer my question as If I do pay to ask my questions, I certainly don't want mine to be left without an answer and have that thread closed.  Has anyone else noticed this or am I missing something here?

Well, C. Anne - The best to you and I hope we hear back from you and please continue to post.  I hope you feel better, especially abdominally - I have been told that area is the most sensitive area of the human body and if there is a problem there in that area - you are going to hurt like hell.  To that, I can attest to. I pray that your problems will be solved and quickly.

Bye for now~

Hi Again C. Anne~

I am so sorry because I meant to discuss with you the blood that you have noticed as of late.  Don't worry too much about that unless it continues frequently and instead of the toilet paper you notice quite a bit in the toilet.  I had the same thing happen to me and it was an anal fissure.  I have had several of those, due to Crohn's Disease, and that particular one was just a slight tear.  You can try sitz baths to help you with the pain and this includes abdominal and if you can get it use 'Brite
Lite A & D Ointment' on
a regular basis.  Your pharmacist can probably order this and this one works better than all the creams combined.  It is not expensive - mine costs me $2.29 per tube and is worth every penny and I usually order 10 to 15 tubes at a time so that I am stocked up. For me and my friends, we will NOT use any other anal cream except this one.  So, a bit of blood - don't be too worried about this yet mine went away after a few times and with the sitz baths.  You may just be a bit raw up there or a small hemmoroid may have developed.  I know it's scary to see - I called everyone the first time that happened to me!  I thought I was going to die or something - NOT!!!!!
You'll be ok.  You can also ask for Rowasa Enema's to be used at night - Very cooling effect and the Proctofoam helps out a bit - stings some at first but after the 2nd or 3rd night - Ahhhh,
relief - same as the Rowasa Enema's - best thing in the world.
This one does not just apply to Crohn's patients.  I have friends who get them for other circumstances.

Thank you Empriente, I appreciate your words and your commisuration with respect to abdominal pain.  Yes, 2 years has been too long.

The treatment with "Ordamond" is an electrodermic treatment that can be used for a range of ailments and treated with various frequencies.  It is completely non invasive and works with the meridian concepts of accupuncture, with out the needles.  It was invented in Germany and has been in use in the US for some time now.  The specialist suggests that I will notice a change in 6 weeks.  I've only been twice, of course I wish it was faster!  You can probobly look it up on the net.

Please take care, I wish you well.
