pain relievers and alcoholic liver disease

by TJas, Dec 08, 2006 12:00AM
Could someone please tell me what pain medication is recommended for people with suspected alcoholic liver disease/cirrhosis?  I have been told Tylenol by some Dr's and Advil by others.  I have frequent headaches and am afraid to take anything to relieve the pain and am miserable.  Please help.

I wouldn't take Tylenol at all.It is reported to cause liver damage and if their is already damage present your certainly don't want any more.

It is my understanding that you can use those pain remedies however you must keep the daily dosages low. Some docs say no more than 2000mg in a 24 hour period, some say 3000mg. of either Tylenol or Advil.

You want to have excellent nutrition and eat smaller more frequent meals, maintain a liver friendly diet and keep the medications to a minimum, but there is no reason you have to suffer.
