pain

my 15 yr old daughter had her gall bladder removed 3 weeks ago.now everyday she gets an attacked of pain, across the top part of her stomach. it lasts maybe 15 min, or longer then goes away.she says it feels like someone is kicking her in the stomach. her surgeon said it could be ulcers and gave her pepcid, which shes taken only a couple days. and still not helping.took her to er one day the doctor there said the same thing.i wanted a second opinion, but other hospitals say, i have to take it up with her surgeon. shes in more pain now then when she was before she had her gb removed. im so worried, and would appreciate, any help or advice on this. sincerely debbie

Try having her follow a low fat diet. For some, they have a very hard time adjusting to processing fats after the surgery and it can take some time to adjust.

If the pain is 'approaching' anything like what might be found with a gallbladder attack or if it's happening in the URQ and if they found sludge after the gallbladder was removed, and the pain continues, ask the doc to follow up on the possibility that some sludge might have escaped into the common bile duct. If that happened, the sludge could irritate the common bile duct and cause quite a bit of discomfort. The discomfort could be due to biliary spasms.
