panniculitis (acute mesenteritis)

Hi, After many weeks of confusing and odd symptoms we have finally had diagnosis of panniculitis after CT scan of upper abdo.  Only problem now is that nobody seems to know anything about it.  Apparently it is quite rare.  Need help.  GP referred off to physician but that is three weeks away....  still getting bad abdo pain, mainly upper radiating into back.  Severe at night.  Keeping him (my husband) awake.  Taking analgesia like Capadex and Panadeine Forte like lollies.....Any advice appreciated.....

This is a very rare condition. If you can manage to post your E-mail address (a throw-away, please), which you'll probably have to 'spell out' in some way, I can forward a sheet to you from a medical database on the condition in general. You need to know everything you can about the condition since most docs are going to be clueless, and they're probably going to use the database I do to access some information.

In general, treatment for this condition will depend on a variety of factors, but it's suggested that it should be individualized and based on the symptoms and complications. They suggest a trial of immunosuppressive therapy . Corticosteroids in combination with tamoxifen are the preferred first-line therapy while azathioprine or cyclophosphamide can also be added. For refractory cases, thalidomide is often suggested. If obstruction occur, surgery should then be undertaken.
