perforated colon

perforated colon

I had a colonoscopy 5 months ago. My doctor told me their were no polyps , no diverticular disease and my colon was clean. He told me to come back and see him in 10 years.
I am a 69 year old white male. I have never smoked.
Three weeks I had emergency surgery for a perforated colon caused by diverticulitis. If I had no diverticular disease how did
I go from being free from diverticular disease to almost dying with diverticulitis?
Thank you for an answer!

I'm not making light of this, but it sounds like your had one of those med students that graduated at the bottom of his class.  I lost a son due to a bad GI doctor, so they're out there.  Plus, at your age you should have a colonscopy at least every 2 years, not 10.  I feel bad for you having to endure this dangerous situation.  I hope you find a new GI doctor, and kick this one to the curb!  Take care....
