polyps

Finally, an answer to the constipation.  I have polyps.  They were removed yesterday.  I believe there were two.  That is what it looks like in the pic. they gave me. But I thought they said one.  The polyp was removed and sent for biopsy.  I should have results tomarrow.
My questians: In one of the pic, the polyp looked like it was filling about 3/4's of the space in the colon,  yet the one they showed me looked about 1/4 inch long and 1/8 inch width.  Is the colon that small where one that size would take up 3/4 of the space?  Or was it that just it appeared that way in the pic?

Also,  does anyone know what the chances are of polyps returning?
I never want this to happen again and want to be well aware of what to expect.  I have done lots of damage to myself waiting to finally get to the bottom of the problem.  I am now faced with uterine prolapse and rectal prolapse.  I am hoping all this is not so severe and that it can be just left alone.  When I go for my follow-up the Dr is supposed to discuss the possibility of doing a videodefecogram.  (Spelling?)

hi angel, you will no doubt need a colonoscopy every two years to make sure they have not returned .because they do have a history of comming back .i know that is not what you wanted to hear but you did say you needed to know what to expect.and it is always better to know than not.a couple of people i know has one done every two years upon the advice of the doctors . most polyps are non cancer so try not to worry to much on the byopsy and i pray your health returns in full. i know this must be a large waight off your shoulders just to find out what it is and get it removed.god bless , i am happy for you .mary ann

I think that the recurrence rate for polyps (if you already have them) is probably around 50%....maybe lower.  Now that you know that you have a history, it's important that you have a colonoscopy regularly, usually every 5-10 years depending on your age and medical history.  The good thing about colonic polyps is that they're very slow growing and they take a long time to turn cancerous, if indeed they are malignant.  Most polyps are benign.  I'm very glad that your polyps were removed early and I'm betting that the prognosis will be good!  My brother had two polyps removed last year after he had rectal bleeding for a year.  His were benign and he's in good shape.  I wish the same for you!
