I just had my first Endoscopy today and was told that they took a biopsy to check for Barretts Disease. Well I decided to look up "Barretts Disease" only to be terrified. I had a bleeding ulcer back in 1993 and have had heartburn and acid reflux
more often (especially after eating) so I complained to my doctor only for her to send me to the allergist. After a year of trying allergy meds I complained again and I asked to be seen by an ENT
doctor. That is who suggested the Endoscopy. I will be extremely upset if this biopsy comes back bad knowing that I could have had this procedure done years ago and maybe it could have saved me some pain or even my life........who knows. I am praying that it comes back good but it will be the longest two weeks of my life waiting for the results. I will post the results when I get them.
K, docs can be jerks at times, unfortunately. But the big thing to keep in mind is that if it is Barrett's, you have more of an incentive to make sure it doesn't get any worse. And Barrett's doesn't have to progress. In fact, start today - just consider it a pre-emptive strike to make sure you do everything you can to keep yourself healthy.
