possible leaky gut?

i've been adhering to a gluten free diet now since May of this year, so that's a period of about four or five months, taking into account the learning curve. i've made some mistakes along the way, but have stayed true to the diet most of this time. the worst of my symptoms have improved or resolved since then, including mouth sores, back pain, joint pain, bloating, abdominal pain, fevers, fatigue, depression, irritability. you get it.

numerous tests have ruled out small intestine bacterial overgrowth, reproductive problems, etc. i've been tested for food allergies and now avoid those foods. it doesn't appear that i'm suffering any vitamin deficiencies, except maybe vitamin D. blood tests have not confirmed Celiac Disease, but i am certain i suffer from some manner of gluten intolerance.

yet despite sticking to the diet, i am not symptom free. i was running last year. now i get winded going up a flight of stairs. i still suffer with abdominal bloating and fatigue, migraines, forgetfulness (i'm only 37) and recently diarrhea. i'm beginning to lose weight. is it possible i have leaky gut? why would some of my gastrologic symptoms worsen now? my doc hasn't given me any direction yet. any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

i'm fairly certain casein isn't a problem for me. i tried eliminating all dairy for a little while with no real improvement or change.

and yes, reading food labels has become a habit for me now. if i'm unsure about a food, i pass on it.

i didn't realize it could take as long as two years to heal completely. thank you. that fact makes it even more crucial to follow the diet.

thank you so much for answering my post.

Mercury, have you ruled out problems with casein? Many celiacs cross-react, so that should be checked out.

Are you reading every single label and making sure there's no hidden gluten products in anything? And you've also go to realize that if you're celiac, you've had problems for most of your life so 5 months isn't long enough to clear a lot of stuff up. You'll see differences, but it could take - in some cases - as long as 2 years to find out what the full benefits are going to be.
